This is a useful tool in many cases, but by no means necessary for all people. Different tests are available for different situations, and if we decide it would be valuable, I will bring in a practitioner for that particular test.
Often clients have a recent Myers Briggs report from which one can gain information. If we decide a new assessment would be good, this is the test I generally use, though Thomas PPA can be good in some instances.
Almost invariably I talk to a couple of people who have known the client well at work over a period. This can be just as effective a method of drawing out personality traits, strengths and weaknesses.
